"From Whither to Where Beyond and Back...." 33" x 25" mixed media on board
A self-portrait of a sort from my years in the Bahamas. The figure holds a bird-of- paradise flower in her hand, the paradise of the beauty and mystery of the islands. The aloe plant and prickly cactus live side by side while the ever present croton in all its splendor thrives in the coral rock and shell of the landscape. The white rose, many times presented in my painting at that time, symbolizes one's soul and life as it moves through its phases of becoming to being to fading to ever lasting. The physical, intellectual and spiritual reside in the watchful eye of God as we wander ....from whither to where, beyond and back.
