"Pond on Pond" 21" x 29" watercolor on paper
The painting is an emphasis on multiple viewing and actually is a painting within a painting......a distant view within a close-up of the same image. The white frames set off portions of the painting to create perhaps a third perspective suggesting that one could continue to "crop" and create infinite paintings within one image, or continue to "look" and see infinite possibilities within any given situation. The single flower image on the bottom left was an afterthought, painted over the finished painting to add balance to the composition. Likewise its image is painted as an afterthought, as a photograph push-pinned onto the pond's surface. There is an overtone of questioned reality suggested in the whole painting.
