"Garden Diptych" 72" x 96" acrylic on stretched canvas
I approached this canvas unlike any other. Usually I know beforehand where I am going. Either I have a sketch or photo references. This began as a concept of soft muted color, rhythm, reference to the orchid plant, concern with the abstract rather than identifiable image and a final place for it to hang already determined. The painting is of two 48" x 72" stretched canvases. I wanted the two canvases to flow as one composition, yet to work independently as well. One photo reference was used to begin in the top left panel and to establish the palette. From there it was back and forth interaction with the painting itself until there was no where else to go, nothing more to say.
